Abstract
This case study examines the strategic challenges faced by luxury hypercar manufacturers as they navigate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Set against the backdrop of increasing environmental regulations and shifting market demands, the case explores how iconic brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Pagani grapple with preserving their heritage while embracing technological innovation. Through a series of high-stakes meetings-from an internal Ferrari discussion to an Italian industry gathering and a global summit in Davos – the case illuminates the complex interplay of factors influencing decision-making in this elite segment of the automotive industry. The case discusses the issues of (a) brand identity preservation, (b) technological feasibility, (c) market positioning, and the (d) redefinition of performance in an electric era. The case provides a multifaceted perspective on the (f) dilemmas of innovation in a tradition-bound industry, offering insights into change management, strategic planning, and the balance between progress and heritage in luxury markets.
