Abstract
This is a French version. This is part of a case series. This case study looks at the French hospital system through the original example of the Hôpital Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild (HFAR). As a private not-for-profit institution (ESPIC), HFAR is based on a half-public, half-private model adopted by only 15% of hospitals in France. Through its history, its position in the French hospital world and the challenges it faces, students discover the strengths and major issues of a hybrid organization and explore the notion of systemic change. Case A tells the story of the HFAR from its creation in 1905 to 2019. In particular, it focuses on its development strategy since 2010, when Julien Gottsmann – now the hospital’s CEO – joined the management team. Students will thus become familiar with the hospital context, the characteristics of the ESPIC model and the challenges faced by French hospitals.
